The team's research interests lie in Mathematical Biology, Numerical Analysis, Continuum Mechanics, Conservation Laws and the development of modeling and computational methods for related problems.
Within the activities of the Marie Curie Research Training Network, the group
's interests focus on tumor-induced angiogenesis and endothelial / tumor cell migration in response to extracellular signals.
In particular, the team's research efforts focus on:
- Vasculogenesis & tumor-induced angiogenesis
- Intracellular signaling during chemotaxis
- Dynamical aspects of tumor cell biology
- Cell migration
- Cell mechanics
- Cochlear mechanics
- Numerical methods for chemotaxis models & mechanical models
Moreover, the establishment and development of the Cell Kinetics Laboratory allows for direct access to
in vitro experimental data for modeling purposes and facilitates the validation of the mathematical model results.
Currently, the team collaborates with other research groups, that develop computational methods for quantification of tumor growth and
therapy, as well as experimental biologists and physicians within Hellas and abroad.
Activities & Education
We keep a biweekly Journal Club to discuss papers and our work.
Courses offered:
- Population dynamics (fall semester).
- Pattern formation in biology & introduction to tissue mechanics (spring
semester).
